Nvidia and Intel Propel Supercomputing and AI to New Heights

The supercomputing arena is abuzz as both Nvidia and Intel unveiled game-changing HPC (High-Performance Computing) initiatives at SC2023 to enhance AI capabilities significantly.

Nvidia's leap into history comes with their Grace Hopper superchip now hitting full production. This formidable CPU-GPU hybrid is powering JUPITER, pegged as a pioneering AI supercomputer. With Nvidia at the helm alongside ParTec, Eviden, and SiPearl, JUPITER is slated to revolutionize weather prediction, drug discovery, and more.

But it's not just in networks where Nvidia shines. They also introduced the standalone H200 silicon, combining discrete GPU prowess with the Nvidia HGX H200 server boards for high performance without the supercomputer scale.

Intel isn’t far behind in the race to supercomputing supremacy. Ogi Brkic, Intel’s HPC and AI virtuoso, showcased the Intel Data Center GPU Max series and the Intel Habana Gaudi 2 accelerator as their frontrunners.

The Dawn Phase 1 supercomputer at the University of Cambridge—UK's fastest AI supercomputer—is a testament to Intel's capabilities, integrating 512 Intel Xeon CPUs with 1,024 GPU Max Series GPUs.

And there's more: The Aurora supercomputer stateside is gearing up to tackle a 1 trillion parameter LLM, AuroraGPT, for scientific research exploration. Already training across 64 Aurora nodes, there's a vision to expand this across all 10,000+ nodes.
