DEEP DIVE

Google Unveils Generative AI Search for Doctors

To assist healthcare professionals in quickly accessing precise clinical information, Google Cloud has introduced a new AI-powered search tool at HLTH ‘23. This initiative aims to help clinicians retrieve data from several medical records, including clinical notes, electronic health records, and scanned files, amalgamating meticulous information on a single platform.

This function is potentially invaluable for healthcare workers overwhelmed with extensive administrative tasks amidst staffing crunches. Findings from a study funded by the American Medical Association revealed that for every hour spent with a patient, physicians have to dedicate two additional hours to administrative chores.

The new search capabilities can not only determine if a patient is eligible for a clinical trial but also identify accurate billing codes and provide citations and links to original data sources within an organization's internal network. This new service is part of Google's Vertex AI Search platform and will be available for health and life sciences organizations. It builds upon Google's existing Healthcare API and Healthcare Data Engine products.

Patient safety isn't compromised: Google ensures it doesn't access customer data or use it for training models, and the new service is fully HIPAA compliant. This search tool is geared towards streamlining workflows for healthcare workers and, by extension, enhancing the patient's healthcare journey by making it more efficient and cost-effective.

ChatGPT's $4.58M record revenue marked by slower growth: ChatGPT's mobile app clocked record-setting revenues of $4.58 million and 15.6 million installations in September, despite a decline in revenue growth to 20%. The app continues to perform well in the US, contributing to 60% of its income, but faces tough competition from rivals like Ask AI.

AI personalized adult content challenges entertainment industry: AI-enabled adult content presents an unprecedented level of personalization, throwing traditional models in disarray. It offers practically limitless variety and fills specific consumer niches unfilled by conventional content. However, it stirs up discussions on moral implications and legality connected to possibly problematic content.

US criticizes EU's AI regulation: The US State Department has raised concerns over the EU's AI Act which could favor large AI companies over smaller startups and impede investment in AI technologies due to high compliance costs. The analysis also fears that the laws may affect the global economy due to the so-called "Brussels Effect."

China eyes 50% increase in computing power to enhance AI capabilities: Chinese agencies plan to augment computing power by 50% to 300 exaflops by 2025 as it continues to rival the US in AI and supercomputing. Increased computing power will reinforce its AI development for industries like finance and education. The plan also includes augmenting memory storage, data transmission networks, and building more data centers to support AI cloud services.
