Google Unveils AI-Supported Search Experience for Teenagers

Google has announced that its generative AI search tool, dubbed SGE (Search Generative Experience), will soon be accessible to teenagers. This will enable youngsters aged 13-17 in the US to access AI-supported search through Google's Search Labs via the Google app or on Chrome desktop.

The AI-infused feature bolsters Google Search by adding a conversational aspect, enhancing user interactions by offering a dialogue-friendly approach. To fend off inappropriate content, Google has built-in safeguards and reinforced protections against illicit substances and bullying.

Google has launched a new feature called ‘About this result.’ Aimed at offering a better understanding of how SGE generated the response—this handy feature provides further context about the content teenagers encounter through AI search.

Various enhancements are also in the pipeline to refine the AI's response to queries that may carry false or offensive undertones. Google is initiating an update to its AI model that focuses on detecting such controversial queries and counters with top-quality, accurate responses. The tech giant is also exploring means to review and revise its initial responses on sensitive subjects.

Google has gradually enriched the AI search journey from backing video and image searches to delivering local info, travel suggestions, and tools for summaries and definitions. Recently, it even started trials on displaying ads alongside the AI-produced responses.

This experience, though not entirely without its complications, promises to transform our search habits.
