DEEP DIVE

OpenAI Unveils New Models, Developer Products, and Improvements at DevDay

Shortly after making GPT 4 generally available back in Jul, OpenAI has now launched the next-gen GPT-4 Turbo—bringing quite a leap in competency. Having knowledge of world events up to April 2023, it has a 128k context window so it can work with over 300 pages of text in a single prompt. Even better, the model has been optimized to run at 3x cheaper cost for input tokens and 2x cheaper for output tokens compared to GPT-4.

But the star in today’s announcements? The Assistants API! Built to enhance developers' experience, the Assistants API paves the way to build high-quality, AI-based apps with capabilities like Code Interpreter, Retrieval, and function calling.

Worried about constraints on the context window? This API introduces the concept of infinitely long threads, letting you offload thread state management onto OpenAI.

Exciting, right? There's more!

  • OpenAI has unveiled the possibility of building your own GPT versions without having to code. Additionally, an upcoming GPT store will showcase user-created versions accessible to paid ChatGPT customers.

  • OpenAI has launched a newer version of GPT-3.5 Turbo, boasting 38% improvement on tasks needing careful format following, such as XML, JSON, and YAML.

  • GPT-4 Turbo can now accept images as inputs in the Chat Completions API, making it possible to generate captions or analyze images in detail.

  • DALL·E 3 has been made available through their API, helping users programmatically generate images and designs for apps and products.

While they’re hitting high notes with their models, OpenAI has their customers’ backs too. The 'Copyright Shield' comes as a measure to protect businesses against legal claims around copyright infringement.

OpenAI is leaving no stone unturned in driving the future, where AI plays a significant role in enhancing productivity and making life simpler. Is this the dawn of a new generation of AI?
